a beautiful book for all ages!
I'm not really 9 years old, but I was when I received this book for my birthday. It is the best little sister book to be written and I recommend this to everyone. Karen's grandmother has an accident and is in the hospital, so Karen asks for no christmas presents, she only made a christmas wish that her grandmother will be home from the hospital. This book also focuses on the celebrations of Christmas and Hannukah and karen is doing all kinds of christmas activities and fun things like baking cookies, making ornaments, decorating a tree, writing letters to Santa and building snowmen for example. And she's also learning about Hannukah from her best friend Nancy, and she celebrated hannukah with them and nancy celebrated christmas with karen's family(the little house family). A book written to lift the spirits of anyone, especially during the Christmas holidays. And yes, she does get presents in the end, it's a happy ending.

Karen's Wish
It's the best time of year for 7 year-old Karen. The sounds and smells of Christmas are every were. Her happiness crashes when she hers about how her Nannie had a bad fall and is in the hospital. She only has one wish this holiday season, for her Nannie to get out of the hospital. This story is sure to brighten up your holiday spirits. A must read for kids and parents.

excellent astrological book by an excellent author
this book on astrology is excellent in quality, form and content. in martin schulman's book, joy and the part of fortune, he details and educates readers on a little-known aspect found on everyone's natal charts, the part of fortune. it is a great resource for anyone interested in astrology at any level of study. the information found within the book's 120 pages is easy-to-read and comprehensive. don't let appearances fool you! despite its diminutive size, there is a wealth of information. recommendation: keep a copy of your natal chart handy (complete with the part of fortune) as you read the book. in this manner, you will be able to experience the validity, usefulness and beauty of martin schulman's writings on the part of fortune firsthand. p.s. if you enjoy this book, i highly recommend that you read other astrology books martin schulman has written. schulman's books form the foundation of my astrological library, and i have yet to be disappointed when i encounter a previously unread book by him.

great astrological resource
martin schulman's books form the backbone of my astrological library. this book is no exception. in it, he provides detailed descriptions of a less-mentioned aspect in everyone's natal charts - the part of fortune. it is one of the few astrological books out there that explores the particular topic, educating the reader in the process. don't let appearances deceive you when you receive this book. despite the low page number (120) and its small-size, it provides a wealth of information that is easy-to-read, in-depth and comprehensive. note: it is helpful for the reader to have your natal chart handy (complete with the part of fortune) while you review this book. then, you will be able to see and experience the usefulness, validity and beauty of martin schulman's shared astrological insights for yourself! p.s. if you enjoy this book, i highly recommend that you read martin schulman's other books. they are all excellent! :-)

Karmic Astrology: Retrogrades and Reincarnation
Published in Paperback by Red Wheel/Weiser (December, 1977)
Author: Martin Schulman
Average review score:

Read it Again, Sam, and this time read it right!
It is very hard to interpret retrograde planets in a chart, particularly if you don't have any retrograde planets yourself. You will find that there is very little written about the interpretation of retrogrades and Schulman has done a very fine job of explaining the energy of this phenomenon in his book.
Every book in the series is excellent and together they make a nice "set" edition to your astrological reference library.

It was a real eyeopener for us with multiple retrogrades.
Mr Schulman was the first astrologer that gave me a balanced understanding of my retrogrades planets. I now feel a lot more comfortable with their effects in my life. He is very thorough and insightful about the the energies that they represent and how they should be used. I'd always read that they were a big burden for me to carry but I now know that they are indeed a gift for me to use in working on my karmic challenges.

wonderful astrological book on relationships
like all of martin schulman's books, karmic relationships is concise and in-depth at the same time. the brief and descriptive paragraphs schulman writes on each aspect is filled with insight. once again, you cannot go wrong when you decide to purchase this book to learn more about how you relate with another person. keep in mind that the book discusses specific synastry chart aspects between two people so keep the chart in one hand and the book in the other to gain insight and wisdom in your own relationships!

Karmic Astrology by Martin Schulman
Martin Schulman's book "Karmic Relationships" is fantastic! I have several books on synastry but this one is by far the best. He examines relationships from a spiritual and karmic perspective that is immensely helpful in identifying potential problems in a relationship. In many instances he identifies challenges that may be transcended to create harmony within a relationship. Over the years I have found his interpretations to be very accurate and a helpful tool for creating fulfilling and harmonious relationships. This book is a must for any astrological library.

Kids Art Works!: Creating With Color, Design, Texture & More (Williamson Kids Can! Series)
Published in Paperback by Williamson Publishing (June, 2003)
Authors: Sandi Henry, Norma Jean Martin-Jourdenais, and Norma Jean Jourdenais
Average review score:

Art with great results!
Teachers and parents, don't miss this art resource for your kids! The author has done a wonderful job of compiling a variety of activities using a variety of materials, at a range of skill levels. I have completed a few of these projects with students aged 6-16, and they have turned out great. The materials are easily obtained, the projects generally uncomplicated, and the instructions clearly illustrated and easy to follow.

Projects include designs and pictures made with paint, glue, string, sand, cut-out paper shapes, markers, foil, beans, macaroni, glitter, plants, fabric. Techniques include drawing, experimenting with shape, line, texture and color, contrasting shapes and colors, stamping, splatter and spin, weaving, shadowboxes, 3-D sculptures of various materials, crayon resist, sponge painting. Not only can all these projects keep your kids being creative, they really turn out attractive. I have several art books for children by this same publisher and they are all excellent.

Kids Art Works
Fabulous and fantastic!!! I teach K-8 at a Catholic school and this book is an invaluable resource. The projects are incredibly fun and easy to understand ( with step-by-step instructions and illustrations also rated with a level for different ages and abilites) and at the same time very educational in teaching color, design, and texture.

The King of Babylon Shall: Not Come Against You
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt (01 April, 1996)
Author: George Garrett
Average review score:

Unfairly Ignored
Outside of Virginia and graduate writing programs, where he is treated as a minor deity, Garrett is largely anonymous. This is a shame, since he is among our greatest living writers. I'm especially fond of this book, which explores the South's relationship with its own history in a way that respects and humanizes everyone without abandoning the humor that marks the best of the region's fiction. I do not wish to imply that Garrett is merely a local star. He writes about the South because he is from here, but also because it provides a microcosm of America. Issues of racial identity and religious splintering dominate this nation, and they also dominate this novel.
Garrett is an elegant stylist, a wry and fearless observer and a gifted humorist. This book ought not be discarded--it is the best American novel about America written in the past decade, and it is a shame that it has not crossed over into the mainstream territory of book clubs and high school reading lists.

A totally fascinating literary mystery!
The author writes this novel set in Florida with a combination of vigor and poetry and humor that is very rare and wonderful; his many characters pull you deeper and deeper into this story which flies back and forth a generation to gradually reveal the truth of a 20 year old murder. One extraordinary character after another is born on the page and all together form part of the story. No wonder the author can write such very deep and real Elizabethan books for which he is justly famous.

King: The Photobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Average review score:

Absolutely Superb!!!
The words of 1998 MacArthur Fellow Charles Johnson's ccoupled with the poignant photographs of Bob Adelman climax in this excellent literary work that chronicles the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The wonderful photographs and literary prose compliment each other beautifully throughout this masterpiece, detailing the life and democratic stuggles of King. Beginning from the early childhood of Mr. King to his untimely death,
Adelman's photographs depict a very young King with his family. It provides insight into his his upbringing and illustrates the foundation that culminates into the life of the great civil rights leader. It continues to depict his educational pursuits and ultimate marriage to the lovely Coretta Scott.

The books carries the reader through the voyage as a young King rises to prominence as a preacher, his continued quest for racial equality, and mainly
his persistent call for agapic love in conjunction with nonviolence. Also, shared in this tome is intimate photographs of King's time spent with his loving family and information about King's life that may not be well-known.

Although nearly 300-pages, this book capitvates the reader from cover to cover. All in all, Johnson and Adelman are to be commended for their efforts! This liteary piece is nothing short of superb!

A Photo Spectacular
I have many photography books in my personal collection, and I have several on the civil rights movement, but this book is by far the best I have seen. The book combines the work of several photographers - including Alfred Eisenstadt, Charles Moore, Henri Cartier Bresson, plus some lesser knowns - who have been individually recognized for their own work. The photographs are a true documentary of Martin Luther King's life and death with many photos I have never seen before.

Knock 'Em Dead Business Presentations (Knock 'Em Dead)

Average review score:

Fundamentals of making a successful business presentation
Knock Em Dead Business Presentations tackles the fundamentals of making a successful business presentation; from researching a presentation and capturing audience attention to using visual aids to make a point, and involving an audience in a presentation. Everything is found within the pages of Knock Em Dead Business Presentations necessary to creating an effective, nuts and bolts presention of a fine business program from scratch.

Highly Recommended!
Career management expert Martin Yate and finance whiz Peter Sander have assembled a dandy handbook on making effective presentations. After pointing out the value of developing this key career skill, they focus on how to prepare a good speech. They go from identifying your audience, to determining how best to deliver information, to being ready to be hot stuff at the podium. Similar books have explained these steps before, but the authors couldn't offer their meatier advice without beginning with the basics. Familiar instructions include researching your audience and topic, being yourself and using effective communications techniques. The more distinctive information covers turning your talk into a kind of conversation with the audience, employing audio visual aids effectively and adopting proper stage dress and manners. Though the material is familiar, we from getAbstract appreciate this well-organized, clear presentation and suggests that beginning speakers might want to walk this way before stepping up to the microphone.
